Abcousma is a laptop performance intersecting dub methodologies with live electroacoustic music. Exploiting the open multi-track format Stems, Abcousma uses individual musical elements from popular music recordings within a live mixing system consisting of sound processors occupying several send buses, in a manner inspired by dub performances – live manipulation of reggae multi-tracks. The predefined set of processing tools allows the performer to mix individual tracks within each bus, with timbral and dynamic variations in the source material being the predominant modulator affecting processing parameters, and thusly the quality of the final output.

The work was developed in September 2015 during an artist residency at the NOVARS Research Centre, University of Manchester.
